I am passionate about community engagement, and whenever possible, facilitating the space and resources necessary for people to learn about and take action on social, environmental, and economic justice issues. I have had many learning and teaching experiences, and value my non-academic learning and teaching as much (if not more!) than my academic experiences. Through doing project management and public engagement/education work with non-profit and charity organizations during the years before I began my Ph.D., I became very aware of the gap between grassroots work and work in the academy. Wherever possible, I try to bring the values of community work to academic research teams, and support community groups with the research I have access to.
